Queen’s birthday

For the birthday of Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II on April 16, the Danish people arrive at Amalienborg Palace at 12 noon to cheer their queen. Traditionally, their followers shout, “Queen, queen, come out, otherwise we won’t go home!”, And the royal family waving several times on the balcony.

Copenhagen marathon

At the Copenhagen Marathon, numerous athletes from all over the world start to run against each other and against their own watch. Many onlookers line the route and cheer for the runners. The start is in Islands Brygge and the circuit leads past numerous sights, such as the harbor and the city center.

Copenhagen carnival

On a May day, Copenhagen is all about the Samba Carnival à la Rio de Janeiro. Friday is children’s time in Fælledparken. During the parade on Saturday, in addition to the parade leading from Kongens Nytorv via the pedestrian zone Strøget to Rådhuspladsen, live music and dance performances are offered. The samba carnival closes on Sunday evening with a night parade.

Copenhagen distortion

Copenhagen’s nightlife has such an excellent reputation that it has to be celebrated with an equally outstanding party. The “Copenhagen Distortion” festival is celebrated with events of all kinds in the hippest clubs and bars, on public transport and in many other places. Hip hop, techno, jazz and rock are offered as well as contemporary art, architecture, design, fashion and media culture.

Roskilde Festival

One of the largest Northern European festivals attracts hundreds of thousands of music lovers to Roskilde every year. Musicians and international stars appear on several stages. Events such as street dance and beach volleyball form the supporting program, and the event also focuses on sustainability and social support.

The Copenhagen Summer Festival, a popular chamber music festival with both renowned and up-and-coming artists, offers 12 concerts over 12 days at various venues.

Copenhagen Pride Week

Denmark’s gays and lesbians celebrate their big festival at the Copenhagen Pride. The big gay and lesbian parade through the streets of Copenhagen is the highlight of the event. The parade with a carnival character sets off from Frederiksberg towards the city center and ends at the Danish Parliament.

The port area will become Copenhagen’s cultural spot in August. Around Iceland’s Brygge, Havneholmen, Fisketorvet and Kalvebod Brygge, cultural and leisure events with dance, music, theater, artistry and sport are offered.

Copenhagen Irish Festival

The Copenhagen Irish Festival takes place every autumn. Visitors to the festival can enjoy Irish culture in Københavns Kommunes Musikskole, Staldgade 29 – everything from music to dance and art is on offer.
