Queen’s birthday

For the birthday of Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II on April 16, the Danish people arrive at Amalienborg Palace at 12 noon to cheer their queen. Traditionally, their followers shout, “Queen, queen, come out, otherwise we won’t go home!”, And the royal family waving several times on the balcony.

Copenhagen marathon

At the Copenhagen Marathon, numerous athletes from all over the world start to run against each other and against their own watch. Many onlookers line the route and cheer for the runners. The start is in Islands Brygge and the circuit leads past numerous sights, such as the harbor and the city center.

Copenhagen carnival

On a May day, Copenhagen is all about the Samba Carnival à la Rio de Janeiro. Friday is children’s time in Fælledparken. During the parade on Saturday, in addition to the parade leading from Kongens Nytorv via the pedestrian zone Strøget to Rådhuspladsen, live music and dance performances are offered. The samba carnival closes on Sunday evening with a night parade.

Roskilde Festival

Copenhagen Pride Week

Denmark’s gays and lesbians celebrate their big festival at the Copenhagen Pride. The big gay and lesbian parade through the streets of Copenhagen is the highlight of the event. The parade with a carnival character sets off from Frederiksberg towards the city center and ends at the Danish Parliament.

Kulturhafen
